Nursery, Sunday School & Discipleship Times

Discipleship Learning Experiences

A disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ who is: committed to the body of Christ (the church), becoming more like Jesus, and serving with Jesus in the world.

St James believes the young and young at heart can be disciples of Christ.  We offer multiple age appropriate groups whose prime objectives are training in discipleship and reinforcing Christ’s qualities. Please ask any Greeter for directions to one of the following classes.

Nursery (9:00 am-12:15pm)

Nursery care is available for infants to four years old in age appropriate groups.  We follow guidelines for a Safe Sanctuaries facility.  Paid Nursery staff and church volunteers play, read and care for your child while parents and grandparents attend Discipleship Time and worship services. Pagers are distributed in the event we need to contact you about your child.  A greeter will be glad to show you to the appropriate nursery.

Children’s Discipleship Time (10:15am)

During this time, children will learn about God’s word, about basic theology, and how the children at St. James are connected to the church body. By the time a child finishes elementary school, they will have been taught how to read the Bible, where to find key Biblical events, and they will have been taught how to pray, what grace means, and how to be in relationship with God. The lessons each Sunday build from the previous week. Special activities and crafts are planned that correlate to the topic of the lesson. These principles are taught through age-appropriate curriculum that includes: “Whirl,” “Bible Bootcamp,” and “Learning to Use My Bible.” Our teachers are organized into 3 teams of 2 teachers, at three different age levels (Preschool, Early Elementary K-2 , Older Elementary 3-5)

Youth Discipleship Time (10:15 am)

Youth and their adult leaders meet every Sunday morning. The youth use this time to focus on learning about the Bible, what it means to be Methodist and applying these principles in life experience. We continue to strive to be the best disciples that God has called us to be.

Adult Discipleship Time

Fellowship class (10 am)

The Fellowship Class is a group of adults who meet in Saints Hall to have Bible study and discussions from related literature; to fellowship, and to apply discipleship to our church and world.   Bring your Bible and join in.

Landing Spot (10:15am)

The Landing Spot is a group of  adults with young families and same age singles seeking to find Christ while searching for answers to their everyday issues. Their learning format is literature with accompanying videos and round table discussion.  Landing Spot meets in Room 10.

Kindred Spirits (10:15am)

Kindred Spirits is a group of “Empty Nesters” and single same age adults seeking to further our spiritual journey and create a shared extended family. Rotating leaders guide the group each Sunday. We study Christ’s examples of Servant life, transferring those principles into growth in mission and serving others, and living a disciple-based life throughout our  everyday challenges.  We invite you to join our extended family: we meet in Room 12.  We are currently using a video series to study the book of Proverbs and learn how to incorporate more wisdom into our daily lives.
